Seatrade is over, so what now?

Hospitality TV IPTV System Maritime iTV

The cruise industry remains buoyant, with no signs of slowing down. The number of passengers grew by almost seven percent in 2018, the chief executives reported at Seatrade in Miami Beach. The optimism lies with the fact that “both millennials and retirees are cruising,” according to Arnold Donald, CEO of Carnival Corp.

According to Forbes Travel Guide, because of the increase of luxury-minded travellers it “became quite essential for the industry to assimilate, if not elevate its service to the same standards that these guests have come to expect from the world’s best hotels.”

So let’s have a look at some opportunities to raise the standards of cruise services. One of the most important ones is definitively an Interactive TV that is user-friendly. Modern travellers want access to all kinds of information without a brochure, to order services without visiting reception, to watch programming that has already aired, to decide in advance what to eat, when to clean the cabin, and a lot, lot more. Deciding which ITV system is best for your cruiser can be difficult and a complex task. Luckily, Nevron ITV made a must-read guide that will help you evaluate your next Interactive TV Systems for your cruiser.

Another very important aspect of raising the service is through comfort and design. Old, small cabins just don’t do the trick any more. Windstar gave us a peek in their EUR 250 M worth new suites and the suite layouts with beds by the windows. They provide modern design that definitely matches the experience which you’d expect from one of the best hotels.

How those cruise refit projects can be done was shown by Foreship. They presented their latest infographics of Considerations for cruise ship conversions, that starts with feasibility studies, follows with conversion design, approval, project management, and finishes with onboard services. Until now, they’ve converted 1,200 cruise ships.

Beside all of the services that are similar to a hotel, cruise ships need an additional level of security. Survitec, a global leader in survival and safety solutions for the marine market, presented a new standard for cruise safety asset management.

Another cruise ship-specific is coating. PPG presented their breakthrough biocide-free fouling release coating SIGMAGLIDE® 1290, that eliminates slime problems for a smooth underwater hull.

There was, of course, much, much more, but at least you’ve got a glimpse of what Seatrade Cruise Global 2019 was. Hope to see you next year with new interesting insights!
